GIRFT and SWLEOC Elective Hub Toolkit
Developed by South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre in partnership with GIRFT
South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC) has worked with GIRFT to share their working practices and experiences as an established hub. Staff groups have shared the critical steps they undertake to run their service, the evolution of their team, and challenges they have faced as well as tips for building a service from scratch. This is intended to provide support to systems and providers developing their elective hub provision.
SWLEOC opened at the end of January 2004, as one of the first wave of NHS Treatment Centres. This was a government initiative to address the long waiting lists for elective surgical care. SWLEOC was established as a partnership between (Croydon University Hospital NHS Trust, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust (Epsom General Hospital and St. Helier Hospital), Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust). The centre is located on the Epsom General Hospital campus, as a stand-alone, ring-fenced, unit. The centre is hosted by the Epsom & St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.
